Telstra email outage resolved after email chaos
A problem with Bigpond/Telstra emails that prevented many users from logging in from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning has been fixed.
"Telstra Mail was back up and running just before 7:00 pm AEST last night, but you may have trouble signing in if you're using a third-party app like Outlook instead of webmail," the telecom said in an update released at 7:50 am on Tuesday.
"Resetting your password should usually resolve the issue. Our staff continues to monitor and investigate any concerns that arise. If you need assistance, please contact us by phone or message on the My Telstra app or website.
Telstra initially alerted consumers of the outage on X at 3:00 pm on Monday.
"We've picked up an issue affecting some customers trying to access their BigPond/Telstra Mail via the web," according to the message.
"Our staff is working on it, and we expect to have you back in your email soon. Using an app to access your inbox (Outlook) may be useful in the meantime."
According to a Telstra spokesman, Telstra Mail was restored just before 7:00 pm last night.
"We have seen some customers using third-party apps like Outlook facing issues logging in," according to NewsWire.
"In many of these circumstances, a password reset resolved the issue. We are continuing to monitor and investigate. Our support team is available to assist you by phone or message on the My Telstra app or website.
To get started, you'll need your Telstra email address (which could be a Telstra managed domain or finish in @bigpond.com or @Telstra.com) and password. If you don't know what your email address is, check into My Telstra to get a list of your active mailboxes.
To access My Telstra, you will need your Telstra ID and password. Create a Telstra ID, or reset your password.
Once you've signed into My Telstra:
- Go to Profile in the top right corner of the screen.
- Under Manage your profile, click Account Settings and then Manage mailboxes. This will display a list of all active mailboxes that you currently have.
- To access the mailbox, sign in with your email username.
